West of Scotland Institute of Sport

The West of Scotland Institute of Sport (WSIS) is a partnership between various public and private sector organisations as well as sportscotland and the Scottish Institute of Sport (SIS).

The WSIS is one of six Scottish Area Institutes of Sport. The other five Area Institutes are:

• Central Institute,
• East of Scotland Institute,
• Grampian Institute of Sport,
• Highland Institute
• Tayside and Fife Institute.

Each of the institutes are not single site centres but a network of people, facilities and services involved in the ongoing development of high performance sport in Scotland.

The Area Institute network aims to provide selected athletes with individually tailored programmes designed to help improve their performances, achieve selection to the Scottish Institute of Sport, and ultimately develop their potential to reach the top level in their chosen sport. The Scottish Area Institutes are partnerships between local agencies involved in the development of performance sport along with sportscotland and the Scottish insitiute of Sport. Funding comes from the local partners and the sportscotland lottery fund.
